Speeding and aggressive driving in the City of Burlington are serious concerns.
These issues include:
We work closely with Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) on these and other road safety issues. The City and HRPS use lots of different tools to deal with speeding and aggressive driving, such as police enforcement, road watch and traffic concern reports, digital driver feedback signs and traffic calming measures.
A Traffic Concern Report details a persistent traffic concern at a specific location within Halton Region. A Road Watch Report details any incident in Halton Region involving a specific vehicle if you have the licence plate number for the vehicle and no contact was made between you and the other driver. Completed reports are reviewed and investigated by Halton Regional Police Service.

A digital driver feedback sign shows the speed the driver is going over the speed limit. When a driver is going too fast, the sign tells them to slow down. You can request a free digital driver feedback sign for a street in your neighbourhood during a two to three week period. These signs encourage drivers to go the speed limit and improve road safety by digitally displaying the speed of drivers' vehicles. This alerts drivers to their current speed.
To request a digital driver feedback sign or for more information, contact us at 905-335-7777 or city@burlington.ca. Eligible streets must have one travelling lane in each direction with suitable locations to install the signs, such as a light standard or utility pole.
If you have tried each of the above measures to address speeding and aggressive driving in your area, you may request the installation of traffic calming measures. These are physical measures that are designed to change driver behaviour and reduce the speed and volume of traffic. They include:
To ask about a traffic calming measure, please contact us at 905-335-7777 or city@burlington.ca with your name, address and contact information.
