Construction is complete, and the leash free area is open.
The City of Burlington is constructing a leash-free area in Central Park.
The new leash-free area will be located close to the intersection of New Street and Drury Lane, with pedestrian access from Drury Lane.

The new leash-free area will include:
Construction is expected to begin in September and take approximately six to eight weeks to complete depending on weather conditions.
To ensure safety during construction, the construction area will be fenced off with signs posted. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in keeping the construction site safe during construction.
In 2019, Council approved changes to the leash-free area criteria and leash-free area request process through report PR-12-19.
In 2021, a request was received for a new leash-free area in Central Park through the leash-free area online request process.
As per the leash-free area request process, staff reviewed the application and prepared a report to Council in April 2022. Through report RCC-04-22, council directed staff to proceed with the construction of a new leash-free area at Central Park.
In July 2022, Council approved the construction budget and contract award for the Central Park leash-free area through report ES-33-22.
