Read the latest community news and updates from Ward 3 Councillor, Rory Nisan.
It’s hard to believe we are a few days short of spring as the snow is up to our heads in many spots in Ward 3. But change is never far off, including down at City hall. Here are a couple updates regarding my roles in this new term of council:
- I was tapped by the mayor and my council colleagues to fulfill the Deputy Mayor role with a focus on the environment, including transportation, public transit and climate change. These matters are important as we face down a potential recession in our community.
- I was also elected as Vice-President at Large of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities. This appointment will open doors for me to bring our issues to Ottawa.
- I was re-appointed to the Conservation Halton board and appointed to the Burlington Cycling Advisory Committee.
Many of you have brought concerns on your street forward for review and fixing. I really appreciate hearing from you. Lately, snow plowing issues have been front and centre. Please don’t hesitate to send in your feedback and concerns so we can keep improving. I have one-on-one drop in sessions coming up and am always available for a phone-call or a visit to your property.
- Sincerely Councillor Rory Nisan

We’ll be handing out complimentary PRESTO cards for kids 12 and under on March 25 to support the switch to required PRESTO cards. Please bring proof of age.
Date: Saturday, March 25, 2023
Time: 10 to 11 a.m.
Location: Brant Hills Community Centre (Foyer), 2255 Brant St.
As of March 1, 2023, kids 12 and under need to tap a PRESTO card before taking Burlington Transit with their parent or guardian. Burlington Transit bus drivers will ask all passengers to tap their PRESTO card as they board.
Seniors still have free mid-day transit from Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. They also need a PRESTO card.
Also, my motion to allow free transit for youth 13-19 on evenings and weekends was approved by council, so stay tuned for the roll-out of this new program. I am looking to have this program extended to all day; this will be dependent on discussions with the school boards.
